Why You Should Blur Your House on Google Maps

Why You Should Blur Your House on Google Maps

Google Maps is an excellent resource for trip planning or gathering more information about an area.

Their Street View feature allows you to see businesses and homes without ever having to physically visit. However, some of the in-depth views this feature provides could negatively affect your home’s security. Someone with nefarious intent could gather a good deal of information with access to several angles of the exterior of your home.

The good news is that Google will blur your home from Street View for you, you just need to ask. To start the process, access your home’s Street View within Google Maps and click the link at the bottom right of the screen labeled “Report a Problem.”

From there, you’ll be taken to a report screen where you’ll be able to highlight the area you’d like blurred and provide a bit more information about which sections you’d like blurred out. After Google processes the report, they’ll email you to let you know that changes have been made.

You may need to report each view where your house appears in order to get each angle blurred properly.
